Clean Hair Verses Dirty Hair

Hillary Loves Hair Shampoo Hair Dry Shampoo R+Co

I have a lot of clients ask me “How often should I wash my hair?”

My response usually gets eyebrow raises. I actually push washing my hair to about 4 to 5 days. Depending on how I style it and how active I have been that week. I recommend that most of my clients wash their hair every three to four days. What I hear most from my clients is that their hair is so greasy and they have to wash it everyday. I know for those people that there is some truth to that. The reason their scalps get oily after just a day or even just a few hours is that the shampoo strips the natural oils from the scalp leaving the scalp to over compensate for the loss of oil. Therefore leaving your scalp greasy and limp. I suggest that these clients in particular should start at least skipping one day before washing their hair again.

What helps?   Dry Shampoo is a miracle!

Hillary Loves Hair R+Co Skyline Dry Shampoo

In the cases of people that are so accustomed to washing their hair every day. I always suggest a dry shampoo. A dry shampoo can lift the hair and hide the grease factor without having to wash your locks every day. I love R+CO’s Death Valley Dry Shampoo and the new Skyline powder Dry Shampoo. Both are great options to get more time out of your style.

For those that sweat and work out!

For my clients that are very active and get drenched after a good work out. I suggest just showering and keeping your hair up and not get it wet. Most people say the front area of their hair looks terrible after a work out. In this case I tell them to just wash the front section around the hair line and blow dry. Then style as usual. Dry shampoo helps with this as well!

Not washing is the best thing for your hair. Even with the most gentlest shampoo there is a lot of drying agents in them. Overly shampooing can cause the scalp to overwork and is the cause of your oily scalp. Plus shampooing everyday generally means you are blow drying and styling every day! That’s a lot of heat styling on your hair and we all know that isn’t good. Plus the time. You will save so much time not washing your hair.
Simply re curling, straightening or in curly hairs case spraying water and re apply product will do the trick. Oh did I also mention your color will last longer? Yup there are tons of benefits to skipping the shampooing! Give it a try!

I promise you and your hair will be happier and healthier.

R+Co products are all available in the salon - Lavender & Lace!
